bird Pictures

The same geographical characteristics that make New Mexico and Arizona a happy hunting ground for tree, forest and mountain pictures also supply bird picture opportunities.  Each ecological zone from Chuiahuan desert near El Paso to alpine tundra above Santa Fe have their own set of birds.

On the other hand, good bird pictures take lots of time, effort, and equipment.  Sitting in a blind for hours with a long telephoto and lots of patience may be required.

If this is not your cup of tea, perhaps you should consider visiting the Bosque del Apache Wildlife Refuage south of Socorro, NM.  The bosque is a large area of marshland made by diverting water from the Rio Grande onto the surrounding land.  This mimics what used to happen in the annual spring floods.

Since New Mexico is also on a main miagratory bird flyway Bosque del Apache attracts huge flocks of birds including sandhill cranes and a few whooping cranes.  It is best to visit at dawn or dusk and bring lots of memory for your didital camera.

Walking Rain Gallery

This website displays only a few of our collection of bird pictures.  At Walking Rain Gallery we have more, as well as many pictures of other subjects.  Clicking links on this site will take you to the bird category of Walking Rain Gallery.  Once there you can see all of our bird pictures and order whatever pictures and/or products you would like.  We invite you to look around and see what we have in other categories while you are there.

About us and our bird pictures

We enjoy photography and use the income from sales of our pictures and products to finance more travel and photography.  However, we find the rights management conditions required by stock photo companies unreasonable.

Our copyright and digital rights management is very simple: you can do anything you want with these images, including using them for commercial products, except claim you have a copyright to the original image.  We retain the right to use the images ourselves in any way we please.  Fair enough?

We have included images on the website which are not large enough to print a 5" x 7" at 300 DPI.  The download for those is free.  We think that is a good way to let customers test our shopping cart and enjoy pictures which are to small for demanding uses.

Techniques & Technology

I got my first camera (a Nikkormat) in 1965 and have been taking pictures ever since.  We took slides for many years and then converted to film.  We finally made the move to digital and are still in the conversion process.  This and related sites are being built by converting our huge collection of negatives to digital, editing them with Photoshop, and building websites based on the pictures and our experiences taking them.  It's a lot of work so it will be a while before these sites can be considered a finished project.  We think there is a lot to enjoy in the meantime through.
